Choose Your Basing Style:
  • Green Static Grass: Green Static Grass is a mixture of green, yellow, and red static grass that creates a realistic bright green grass. Green Static Grass is the start of most basing kits. The “standard” finished base is Green Static Grass on top of painted basing grit. It’s a good looking effect, and very easy to do.
  • Parched Straw Static Grass: Not all battles are fought on the green fields of summer. Gale Force Nine’s Parched Straw Static Grass Blend gives you an option to represent dry, cold, or arid climates. This golden static grass is blended with a dash of tan flock and fine mustard flock, for a basing material that has great texture and color. Parched Straw Blend is terrific for represented autumn fields, beachfront scrub grasses, or drought scorched farmland.
  • Arid Static Grass: The grass isn’t always greener on the other side… Gale Force Nine’s Arid Static Grass is perfect of all those dead, dried out, war-torn places where battles are so often fought. Deserts, scrub lands, and abandoned urban lots all look great with a few patches of yellowed, dried out grass. You can also use Arid Static Grass alongside autumn foliage for great early winter bases, snow for winter scenics, or green foliage for early spring bases.
  • Marsh Blend: Marsh Blend is a mix of flocks and static grasses that represent the mossy, murky, plants that live in damp, fetid places. Marsh Blend works well for armies that make their home in bogs, swamps and other dark places. Marsh Blend looks really good alongside Winter/Dead Static Grass.
  • Summer Flock Blend: Summer Flock Blend is a mixture of yellow and green flock, with a little bit of red. Summer Flock Blend can represent everything from early spring growth to bright summer fields. It looks great paired with Green Static Grass and Meadow Flock Blend. Try sprinkling a little on trees or bushes for good-looking flowering foliage.
  • Dirt Flock Foundation: Foundation Dirt is fine blend of brown and grey flock that can be used as the first layer of scenic material on a model’s base. It can that be topped with static grass, foliage, or other scenic materials, just as you would normally. The best part is, it doesn’t need to be painted, making basing (or re-basing) your army quick and easy.
  • Autumn Flock Blend: Autumn Flock Blend is a mix of red, orange, and yellow flock, with a bit of green. Autumn Flock Blend works nicely to represent fallen autumn leaves. If you’re looking for something a little different, try autumn themed bases; they look good with almost any army. Autumn Flock Blend’s variety of colors also looks good sprinkled lightly over green grass or clump foliage, representing wildflowers.
  • Spring Undergrowth: Small clumps of Spring Undergrowth Flock Blend look great as accents on other bases – a couple small bits of Spring Undergrowth work really well as desert foliage. Just a few sprigs of green on a desert base makes the base really pop.
  • Dark Conifer Flock Blend: Dark Conifer Flock Blend is a mix of dark and medium green flocks, with a touch of red and yellow. Dark Conifer Flock Blend realistically represents the forest ground cover armies often march through. The flock in Dark Conifer Blend is a little coarser than our other flocks. When used alongside other flock blends and static grass, it creates another layer of depth on the base. Dark Conifer Blend also works well to represent climbing mosses and fungus on the sides of cliffs or buildings.
  • Summer 3 Color Clump Foliage Mix: Summer Clump Foliage is a mix of light, medium, and dark green clump foliage. Clump foliage is the same material used in flock, but in much larger pieces (“clumps” is the technical term). These larger clumps can be used to realistically represent bushes and small trees. Clump Foliage can also be torn into even smaller pieces, to represent very small plants.
  • Dark Green Static Grass: The deep rich colors of Dark Green Static Grass serve as a perfect accent for armies based in ancient forests or dense jungles. You wouldn’t paint a model with one color of paint – why only use one color of static grass? Try adding clumps of Dark Green Static Grass alongside light green static grass for a darker, lusher, more realistic effect.
  • Autumn 3 Color Clump Foliage Mix: Autumn Clump Foliage is a mix of red, orange and yellow clump foliage. Clump foliage is the same material used in flock, but in much larger pieces (“clumps” is the technical term). These larger clumps can be used to realistically represent bushes and small trees. Clump Foliage can also be torn into smaller pieces, to represent very small plants.
  • Tundra/Ash Flock Foundation: For tundra styled bases, use a light coat of Ash Waste / Tundra flock, topped with small bits of green foliage. Ash Waste / Tundra flock does a really good job of representing the frozen dirt of the permafrost.
  • Meadow Blend Flock: Meadow Blend is a mix of green flocks, a bit of static grass, with a touch of red and yellow. Meadow Blend is a nice alternative ground cover for spring and summer themed bases. Meadow Blend is also great for representing the small plants that often crop up in deserts, rocky cliffs and other inhospitable places. The flock in Meadow Blend is a little coarser than our other flocks. When used alongside other flock blends and static grasses, it creates another layer of depth on the base.
  • Super Fine Basing Grit: Basing Grits are used to represent all sorts of dirt, sand, rubble or debris. A note on our basing grit: All Gale Force Nine basing grit is made from a porous organic material rather than sand or other minerals. This organic material absorbs glue and paint, insuring that everything stays where you want it. When using sand (or kitty litter or any other mineral), paint and glue tend to flake off over time.

  • Concrete Rubble Mix: Concrete rubble creates incredibly realistic concrete because it’s just that: concrete. We use a super-fine powder, mix it, cast big sheets of the stuff, and then smash it up into manageable chunks. Our concrete rubble is tough enough to stand up to lots of games, but can be filed and detailed with normal hobby tools.
  • Snow: Snow is use to represent…snow! Just like the real white stuff, nothing says winter like snow. Two tips: make sure to use white glue to apply snow to your base, since white glue will dry clear. For deeper looking snow, paint the area white before applying the snow texture.
